With Asian roots, an Australian upbringing, and the ability to sing and write songs of universal interest and flavour, Alarice (pronounced ‘a-la-reese’) has a unique appeal in her performance. Born in Auckland, New Zealand to Singaporean parents, Alarice spent her childhood as a third culture kid, growing up in Japan, Indonesia, Dubai, India, Singapore and finally Australia. It was her stint Down Under that awakened her passion for songwriting and music which she discovered as a young teen. It was at a camping trip at Kangaroo Valley, where her peers learnt of Alarice’s voice, which eventually led to Alarice’s first performance at the Sydney Opera House for her high school’s annual music festival. Recognising her unique gift, Alarice picked up the guitar at 17 and found her immense love for putting original lyric to melody. One can describe Alarice’s musical style as acoustic pop with pinch of folk and modern day Country. Her effortless vocals have been likened to that of songstress Brooke Fraser and having the songwriting maturity of Singapore’s very own Corrinne May.
In 2008, Alarice released her debut EP, ‘Songs for a Season’ which she recorded in Melbourne Australia with producer Brad Evans (Human Nature, Guy Sebastian). As an independent artist, 23 year old Alarice has already managed a sold-out tour in the East, with stops including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Hong Kong having sold over 3000 copies within 6 months. “I’m not waiting around for that magic recording contract, I know at this day and age, it’s important for the artist to be proactive, hard-working and entrepreneurial in how we deliver our music” says Alarice.
Recently at Nashville’s GMA Immerse Conference in the United States, Alarice’s single ‘Colour’ was recognised as one of the top ten songs of the year in GMA’s prestigious songwriting competition. This led to a radio deal, with Alarice’s song ‘Colour’ receiving international radio airplay across 105 radio stations around the globe. Now back in Sydney, Australia, Alarice has been busy in the studio recording for her NEW album ‘Sunday Afternoon’ at the renown Grove Studios (Delta Goodrem, Missy Higgins) at the Central Coast with producer Andy Mak (New Empire, Candice Casagrande). With 6 fully produced guitar & piano driven tracks, expect the fresh sounds of Colbie Caillat coupled with the deep and reflective songwriting of Corrinne May. Alarice’s album ‘Sunday Afternoon’ is hot off the press and is sure to be loved. Set to launch her album at Singapore’s Esplanade Recital Studio on the 28 January 2010, be sure not to miss Alarice’s one night only performance in Asia. For tickets & info visit www.alaricemusic.com
